Successful Students
"A Pathway for Opportunity"Melizza Moore Melizza Moore found out about First Data Training through a leaflet describing what we had to offer at a local community centre a few years ago. Her initial reasoning for joining First Data was to 'learn new things'. Also, she enjoyed the advantage of having a community feel in the classes and felt comfortable recognising other people in the area. Melizza states, "I think that First Data is really worthwhile and has given me the opportunity to do things that I otherwise would not have had the chance to do. I started attending the drop-in sessions, then was able to continue on to the courses. I am happy continuing with First Data on courses at present and in the near future" She is currently studying the everyday Maths and English course to both improve and refresh on the skills and knowledge she already has. From this she would like to progress to take the OCR On-screen National Tests in numeracy and literacy at levels 1 and 2. She then wants to progress onto the Desk Top Publishing and Photoshop courses. First Data Training has provided Melizza with 'a new way of learning' which is accessible and has opened up new doors. Melizza now has the confidence to use a computer; also the course has enabled her to apply her new skills in everyday situations at home' Lawrence Pick Lawrence Pick climbed the career ladder by starting as a First Data student, he then joined our team as one of our Volunteer Assistant Trainee Tutors and then finally managed to attain a position at The Evening Post! " I enrolled on both the Desktop Publishing courses in 2005 and enjoyed the two terms that I spent learning how to use QuarkXpress Software; I received an accomplished pass for both exams. In September I began assisting Kevin Lowe with First Data's City and Guilds level 1 & 2 DTP courses. In December, I was overwhelmed to be offered a position with The Evening Post as a DTP operator; the interview involved serveral tests using QuarkXpress! The knowledge I gained from my time at First Data (both as a student and as a Volunteer Trainer) allowed me to prove I had the type of skills the company were looking for in a recruit. I would like to thank all the staff at First Data Training, particularly Kevin. Thank you for presenting me with the opportunity to start a new career in the Media Industry."
