Course Aims
 
The aim of the course is to develop the student's artistic IT skills, especially those who are passionate about creative media.
 
This course will enable students to gain relevant workplace skills and techniques across a range of creative software and interactive media products and processes.
Course Content
 
Unit 1 - Digital Graphics
This practical unit is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the types and uses of digital graphics.  The student will develop skills in using digital image maniupulation software to edit digital images and save them in different formats.  This unit is mandatory for the Certificate.
 
Learning Outcomes:
1.  Use a digital camera to obtain images and transfer these electronically
2.  Use the basic editing tools and features of a digital image manipulation programme
3.  Edit a digital graphic for a particular purpose
                                                                                   
Unit 2 - Web Authoring
This practical unit is designed to give the student an understanding of the capabilities of web authoring and the skills involved in building a website.  The student will develop an understanding of the requirements and capabilities of web authoring and the necessary resources.  You will learn how to use appropriate software to create, add content to and publish a website.
 
Learning Outcomes:
1.  Understand the requirements and capabilities of web authoring
2.  Understand the range of ways of accessing web pages and connecting to the Internet
3.  Create a website structure
4.  Use the tools and features of a web authoring programme to add content to a website
5.  Manage and upload a website
 
Unit 6 – Digital Video
This unit is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the skills required to prepare and capture digital video.  Whilst studying this unit the student will investigate the technology used in the production industry.  The student will also learn the techniques for using a digital video camera to capture footage.  Basic editing tools and the features of appropriate software to store, edit and produce the assembly cut of a video sequence will also be used.
 
Learning Outcomes:
1.  Understand the technology required to produce a digital video
2.  Use a digital video camera to obtain video footage
3.  Use computer software to store digital video
4.  Edit and export the assembly cut of a digital video clip for a particular purpose
 
Requirements
 
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification.  However, the student should have basic IT literacy and a creative mind.
 
Software used:            
Adobe Photoshop CS, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and Adobe Premier Pro
 
Qualification:             
OCR Level 2 Certificate in iMedia
